For two decades, the Systems Services Center has made it possible for more than 50 developing countries to enhance decision making at all levels—local, district, regional, national, and international—by making relevant information more accessible and teaching people to use information effectively.
Overview
SSC uses access to Global Positioning System, the Internet, inexpensive computer software, cellular telephones, PDAs, advanced training techniques, emerging business intelligence and Google Earth-type technologies, and new information interpretation approaches, combined with good systems principles, to bring about positive change.
SSC-designed systems can track budgets, payroll, and staffing; locate and track schools and health centers; and monitor student progress for more efficient and effective resource allocation. Backed by our experience of nearly 50 years in education, health, gender equity, policy reform, education technologies, and data management, SSC has helped countries make the following improvements:
- Accelerate ACCESS to education by applying resources strategically for greatest impact
- Enhance ACCOUNTABILITY by identifying goals and expectations and developing appropriate performance indicators
- Increase TRANSPARENCY by making more information available to more people through more technologies, such as cellular telephones, the Web, and mapping information
- Enhance QUALITY, for example, by linking improvements in health to improved performance in school
- Support DECENTRALIZATION by ensuring that every administrative level has high-quality information to enhance decision making
